How to track if ChatGPT mentions your brand

A practical checklist: manual prompt tests vs dedicated AI visibility tools — and which verified trackers to open first on GetMentionedByAI.

ChatGPT will not email you when it starts recommending a competitor. Tracking brand mentions means running the questions your buyers ask — on a schedule — and recording whether you appear, in what order, and which URLs get cited.

Manual baseline (free, slow): write 10–20 buyer prompts (“best X for Y”, “alternatives to Z”), run them in ChatGPT (and ideally Perplexity and Gemini), screenshot who gets named, and repeat weekly. That is enough to see if you are invisible; it is not enough to trend or share with a team.

Dedicated AI visibility tools automate that loop across engines, store history, and add competitor share of voice. On our verified index, budget starting points include RankScale (from $20/mo) and Otterly.ai (from $25/mo). Enterprise-style platforms such as Profound publish from $99/mo; Scrunch is priced higher for heavier programs.

What to look for before you buy: which engines are covered (ChatGPT alone is not enough for most B2B funnels), whether prompts are scheduled, whether citations/URLs are captured, and whether pricing is public. We only mark capabilities we can source on the vendor's own site — see /category/ai-visibility-monitoring and filter on /tools.

Start this week: pick five real buyer questions, run them once by hand, then shortlist two tools from the Index that publish multi-engine tracking in your budget. Compare pages only exist when both sides are deep-researched — that is intentional.
